We used histochemical method of detecting ?-hydroxysteroddehidrogenases to examine 39 specimens obtained during therapeutic abortion in healthy women and in women with acute herpetic infection. Enzymes were found in chorionic epithelium beginning from the 4-th week of gestation. Enzymes activity in placentas of women with acute herpetic infection during gestation period was found to decrease.
