The publication is the text of a speech at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy at an online round table dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of the largest Russian legal scholar, religious thinker, and herald of the future Russia, Ivan Aleksandrovich Ilyin (1883-1954). The legacy of I. A. Il’in is enormous - it numbers approximately 45-50 volumes of his collected works, 33 of which have already been published. In 2006, I. A. Ilyin’s archive was returned from the archives of the scientific library of the Michigan State University (East Lansing, Michigan, USA) to Moscow State University, where it was already digitized and became available to researchers and readers. It is impossible to present all the richness of Il’in’s legacy in a short article, so the author chose his most important and significant achievements in legal science and philosophy: research on the nature and essence of law; original, different from Western philosophy, doctrine of legal consciousness; teachings about international law, about war, about resistance to evil by force; moral and moral philosophy; pneumatology as a doctrine of the spirit and its manifestation. Excerpts from Il’in’s extensive epistolary heritage are given - from the four-volume “Correspondence of I. A. Il’in and N. K. Medtner (1915-1951)”, which is being prepared for publication.
