Optic pathway gliomas (OPGs) are predominantly benign tumors. Despite this, the behavior of OPGs can be aggressive, posing a serious threat to vision, and sometimes for life, thereby complicating treatment. Their management includes observation, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. This article presents a review of the current literature of the role of each modality with historical aspects as well as current and future developments in treatment of OPGs, in particular, targeted therapy.
