Glamping: the concept, types and development prospects in Russia

The article is devoted to glamping, the direction in camping tourism, which is considered as a type of outdoor recreation. This study is aimed at collecting and organizing information on glamping, as well as considering the development prospects under Russian conditions. The author gives brief description of the history of this concept and proves that this phenomenon is not new, as some try to present it. The article summarizes the material on the existing concept of “glamping” in the scientific literature and journalism. The author attempts to formulate the definition of glamping and provides the main idea that glamping is a tourist product organically combining nature and the surrounding landscape. The article considers types of glamping, presents their categorization in a systematic form. The features of Russian glamping by types of used accommodation facilities, consumers and services are highlighted. The article defines the main segments of consumers, gives their brief description and growth prospects. The author pays attention to factors contributing to the glamping development in Russia. According to practitioners, glamping is a flexible business that can grow along with consumer preferences. At present, three development directions have already been formed that can be implemented in Russian conditions.
