The article analyzes the prerequisites and reasons for the emergence of competition between China and India on the world stage. The first part of the work examines the BRICS association, its advantages and disadvantages. The relations between China and India are studied from the standpoint of confrontation and unifying characteristics. An analysis of foreign trade of both countries, as well as the dynamics and structure of foreign direct investment is conducted. It is revealed that direct competition between the countries is due to their struggle for sales markets and capital in the Asia-Pacific and Indo-Asian regions. In the context of the development of the BRICS association, a conclusion is made that both countries perceive participation in it differently. It is revealed that closer integration and strengthening of partnership relations between the countries is possible only upon reaching one level of economic and technological development.
