Nowadays there is a growing interest in traditional values, history and culture of Russia, and particularly, its medieval period depicted in the Triodion Torzhestvennik as a monument of that time. The compositions of this collection were recited during divine services. The article presents the study of a homily included in the permanent contents of the Triodion Torzhestvennik and recited on the Publican and Pharisee Sunday. The Homily on the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee is an authentic monument of the Slavic culture, and possibly of the ancient Russian culture as well. Using two allegories, the author of the homily reveals the meaning of the parable for the spiritual life of man, and also shows the relationship between outer and inner life. The article refers to two editions of the homily and points out differences in the inscription of the work. The structure of the homily is identified and hermeneutic analysis of the homily is presented. Drawing on comparative analysis of the copies used, an authorized translation of the homily is presented.
