The urban layout of Bolgar city south-west of the Grand mosque between 30-s and 80-s of the 14th century

The article presents some results of archaeological excavations in the central part of the Bolgar fortified settlement. During the works held in 1989-1993, 2000, 2011-2013 the elements of monumental building were reveled in 150 m to southwest of the Grand Mosque. This building was presumably interpreted as town bazaar according to numerous finds of trade inventory and coins. The construction dates back to 50-s - 70-s of the 14 th century. The existence of the town bazaar at the crossroad of two streets could be suggested on the assumption concerning the details of structural elements of building and its internal layout. The street layout has been indicated also by the remains of two mud brickworks. These brickworks were the low rows of mud brick fences (duval) and belong to the layers related with 30-s - 40-s of the 14 th century. Further the foundation of bazaar replaced the street fence. Thus, the dynamics of urban development of the central part of Bolgar southwest of the Grand Mosque during the Late Golden Horde period could be traced.
