The paper deals with international dimension of John Dewey’s pedagogy and analyses the influence of his philosophy of education on British system of education in the XXth century. Of particular interest is the fact that Dewey was a guest lecturer in Scotland and visited this country in 1929. The content of his Gifford Lectures have become later «The Quest for Certainty» book- one of the best books of philosopher and educational reformer. Based on his experience in China, Turkey, Mexico and the Soviet Union, Dewey’s lectures demonstrated the great tradition of sceptical thought most immediately connected in Dewey’s mind with Hume in Philosophy and Montaigne in belles letters.
