About the nature and essence of patriotism and problems of patriotic education

Examines the nature and basic definition of “patriotism”, the content of this concept and attitude in different periods of Russia’s development. The author comes to the conclusion that at the present time, in connection with the collapse of Communist ideology the idea of patriotism can be only one dominant idea in Russia. In the modern world not only the Communist idea, but all the existing ideologies in crisis. In place of the confrontation of ideologies comes the confrontation of civilizations. The confrontation between Russia and the West was and is a confrontation of civilizations. With the collapse of communism it has not stopped, but has only taken new forms. Consequently, in contemporary Russia the idea of consolidating a society can only be the idea of patriotism. The article analyzes the main objectives, directions and forms of Patriotic education.
