The article substantiates the necessity to identify the foundations of continuous education as a factor of personal development throughout life. Readiness to continue education and readiness for selfeducation are considered as such foundations. The article presents the general structure of those kinds of readiness which are then concretized for general secondary education, secondary vocational education and higher vocational education
