The article deals with some aspects of the narration in Artyom Vesyolyy story that depicts the beginning of the Civil War in the Kuban territory. The analysis of the story “Vol'nitsa” (”The Free Life”) is given in the comparison with one of the chapter of the novel “Russia Washed Clean by Blood” and the “journal” fortune of the story is described. The history of the creation of that story is based on the experience of the author in the propaganda train “Red Cossack”, which made it possible to collect the unique factual and linguistic material for further work. The story “Vol'nitsa” (“The Free Life”) is fundamentally plotless, the narrative is based on the creation of a language power that includes several levels of realization. Their combination creates a fusion of intonational-colloquial fixation of the era, heard and recorded in a chaotic-discontinuous-melodic manner, which combines the elements of film montage and the "stream of consciousness". The ideas of film montage in the LEF narrative were very relevant and shared by many supporters of this movement.
