The paper deals with the civil rights and freedoms in the constitutional mechanism of the Second Republic in France. It considers the core content of constitutional articles on civil rights and freedoms and pays attention to their features. Particularly it focuses on the problem of the constitutional consolidation of the right to work and describes various views that emerged during the discussions on the problem of including the right to work in the Constitution. It is concluded that the content and specifics of the articles included in the Constitution, approved by the Constituent Assembly on November 4, 1848 and which became the fundamental law of the Second Republic in France, were influenced by the historical conditions in which it was created – the revolutionary events that preceded the approval of the final version of this Constitution.
