Introduction: currently, legal regulation of relations relating to protection from dissemination of untrue information (from defamation) is among the priorities of most countries. Bodies and persons acting on behalf of and in the interests of the state are also likely to suffer from defamation. Research into the experience of the United States as a country with one of the strongest legal systems appears to be very useful for subsequent application in legislative and law enforcement activities, including in Russian law.
