GTO - past, present and future

The article discusses the essence of physical culture training programme «Ready for Labor and Defense» (GTO) as the basis of physical education of the population. A brief historical background and significance of the complex, which existed in the Soviet Union, the characteristic the modern complex GTO introduced in September 2014, the methods of implementation. The paper analyzes the regulations, as well as the intended route of the complex in modern Russia.
