In this article the notion of Humanitarian Intervention is critically looked upon. International law does not regulate issues related to internal competence of states. However, the non-interference principle does not presuppose the states' absolute right to arbitrarily classify all issues as lying within its exclusive domain. On the other hand, an increasing number of issues, voluntarily submitted by states to the international scrutiny, do not mean to disrupt the states' sovereignty over these issues. Hence, it is virtually impossible to harmonise modern international law with the concept of humanitarian or benevolent intervention.
