In the structure of diseases of domestic carnivores otitis externa is one of the most common pathologies of hearing organs. The phenomenon of longterm persistence of pathogens in macroorganism plays the major role in the pathogenesis of this disease with the leading role assigned to staphylococcus infection. The persistent characteristics of the extracted Staphylococcus aureus germ culture have been studied, and namely antilysozyme activity (ALA), antiinterferon activity (AIA) and the anticomplementary activity (ACA). The dependence of the persistent characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus on the nature of the course of otitis externa dogs and cats has been revealed. During a chronic course of infection an increase in the average adhesion is marked in comparison with an acute course as well as a decrease in antilysozymic activity.
