This article provides information about endometriosis, a disease in which the following points are mainly discussed: endometriosis affects from 5 to 15% of women of reproductive age, which is characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the myometrium. Endometriosis ranks third among all gynecological diseases in terms of inflammatory pathology and frequency of occurrence after uterine fibroids. The study of surgical material showed that adenomyosis practically does not occur in an isolated form. To date, most of the fundamental and clinical work is devoted to the development of theories of the origin and the study of the morphological substrate of adenomyosis. Morphological examination of adenomyosis should be carried out in close connection with its clinical manifestations, which makes the study more interesting and informative. However, this is difficult due to the inability to study adenomyosis in women in the early stages of development. These difficulties can be overcome only in experimental models, which, of course, does not give the right to extrapolate them with a high degree of probability.
