«Hijrat» of Indian Muslims to Afghanistan in early 1920s: the origins and consequences

This paper aims to analyze one of the ill-explored episodes of Afghanistan's recent history in early independence period of 1920s - hijrat (exodus) of Indian Muslims on the invitation of amir Amaah-khan for the protection of the Afghan government. Being designed as primarily propagandist action, it turned to be humanitarian catastrophe of thousands migrants, and illuminated adventurism of new Afghan leadership's Pan-Islamist projects.
