Chemical elements play an important role in transposition of the great arteries (TGA). We investigated the content of chemical elements in the myocardium of patients with TGA and compared the results with the morphological and anatomical data. Also studied were samples of myocardium from infants with TGA at the age of 1 to 6 months. To study the concentration of 14 chemical elements, an X-ray method of fluorescent analysis (on the basis of synchrotron emission) was used. The morphological measurements show a decrease in the diameter of muscle fibers, reduction of the average surface of nuclei, changes in the synthesis of cardiac myosine to skeletal myosine, as well as a decrease in the nucleus-cytoplasmic factor.
