This paper presents the first results of chemoradiotherapy with Temodol following conventional radical surgery for patients with malignant gliomas. Group I patients (n=35) received Temadol in a single dose of 200 mg/m2 for 5 days, every 28 days. Group II patients (n=12) received Temadol in a single dose of 75 mg/m2, daily, 1 hour before radiation therapy, for 42 days. All patients underwent conventional external beam radiation therapy at a single dose of 2,0 Gy, 5 days a week, up to a total dose of 56-60 Gy. Two regimens of chemotherapy with Temodol were well tolerated by the patients. Short-term treatment efficiency at a follow-up of 6 and 12 months was 2-3 times higher in patients with anaplastic astrocytoma and multiform glioblastoma who received concurrent Temodol-based chemoradiotherapy than in patients who received radiation therapy alone at a total dose of 56-60 Gy. The overall 3-year survival rates for patients with anaplastic astrocytoma and multiform glioblastoma who received concurrent treatment were 3-4 times higher than for the control group patients.
