The industrial development of the Siberian region, reaching its peak at the second half of XIX - early XX centuries, was accompanied by a number of new phenomena of both social and economic nature. Construction of the “iron way" connecting Siberia with the central regions of the Russian Empire demanded large scale financial investments. Development of the gold mining industry was exactly the economic category that was able to cover the state’s expenses on development of the region. Like any other industry, Siberian gold mining was associated with some negative phenomena, one of which, due to its specificity, was regular embezzlement from the mine fields.
