The article considers the problem of color in the Christian art. The author investigates the question of using black instead of white in the traditional iconography of the “Miracle of St. George and the Dragon”. Interpreting the color of one of the icons the author takes into account both the pictorial technique and the semiotic content of the color symbolism. Special attention is paid to the temple space, which acts as a mastermind of pictorial and plastic dimensions of the image, determining the choice of colors and shades when creating works of religious art. The research has been implemented at the intersection of cultural, philosophical and artistic issues.
