In 1971-1973 Professor L. R. Kyzlasov discovered two cities in Khakasia that were not mentioned in written sources and were not marked on ancient Arabic maps. Both cities had brick temples that have survived as ruins resembling large hillocks. Description provided by Al-Mas'udi, Al-Shahrastani and Al-Dimashqi helped understand and identify unexpected diversity of types of excavated religious buildings and constructions which turned out to be Manichean temples.
