This article is devoted to the study of chronic sclerotic (atrophic) appendicitis in elderly patients as a separate nosological form. Chronic sclerotic (atrophic) appendicitis in the elderly is a protracted inflammatory disease of the appendix of the cecum of an infectious nature. This condition is relatively rare, since the vast majority of cases of appendicitis are acute. Diagnosis of this condition is difficult due to the lack of characteristic symptoms and the frequent absence of pronounced changes in the appendix. Clinical manifestations are usually weakly expressed and barely noticeable. In elderly and senile patients (60 years and older), both with acute and chronic inflammation of the appendix, the clinical picture is often characterized by vague and unspecific general symptoms, which significantly complicates diagnosis.
