Artistic semantics and interpretation of the image of a prematurely developed girl-woman in the Victorian literature

The article examines two main modalities of the image of a girl in a Victorian discourse: 1) a girl of the proletariat, developed economically; 2) a sexually mature girl of a privileged class. Both in the first and in the second case, the girl’s image indicates a social or family problem.
