The article is devoted to artistic and stylistic images of faces in iconography, which are one of the historically unchanging phenomena of culture. The research is based on the traditions of icon painting and artists who interact with historical experience and acquire their technique of transmitting the faces of saints on its artistic basis. At the same time, new values are recreated in the meaning of the interpretation of an artistic work and quite complex and contradictory artistic directions are formed, the unity of which lies in the correct concept of fine art. The description of "medieval painting" is formed, representing the symbolism, signs and text "language for the illiterate".
