Artistic peculiarities of the short stories by German Yazykov

The article discusses the genre peculiarities of the short stories by Gennadiy Yazykov, a Russian writer of Buryat republic. We analyze the system of characters, symbols, main motives and ideas of Yazykov’s works. The stories included in different collections (e.g., "Time and Fate", "Notes of the Old ‘oper’", "Pages of Memory") represent a large layer of socio-cultural, historical picture of life of the whole republic. It reflects in a descriptive and journalistic style of Yazykov. The narration is based on a linear retrospective plot, and includes the writer’s thoughts about the origins of his and his family genealogy. Yazykov also tells about lives and fates of some families during the tragic years of repression, wartime, post-war hard times, and shows us the development of society during peaceful time. The main character in Yazykov’s stories is a young man, and he is always in the center of rapid events. He is in the beginning of his independent life.
