The history of the works of church facial sewing. Clarification of the term «sewing». The author’s goal was to study the artistic crafts of women’s monasteries XІХ and the actualization of the theme of church art in Russian culture. The study considers the stylistic and decorative-artistic features of the works of liturgical embroidery in the nineteenth century. The research methodology is based on the integrated approach principle and the method of artistic and stylistic analysis. The method of investigation was determined by the goal of studying church monastic art at the turn of the XIX th century and beginning of the XX th. The objects of the church were considered as works of arts and crafts participating in the liturgy. The artistic and stylistic method of analyzing works made it possible to reveal the influence of secular and folk embroidery elements on the ornamentation of church embroidery.
