Works of art - within their techniques and means of expression -form the perception of the area which they depict. The names of some cities sometimes almost become synonymous with the names of artists who worked there, and multiplicity of magnificent urban "places of memory" were "discovered" and became well-known precisely because of the works of brilliant painters. This is the mystery of the "presence effect" of the artist, who leaves a unique, mental mark not only on his canvases, but also in the topos of the urban landscape, greatly shapes it, and creates a "visual heritage".
