The paper reports on a Khujistanid dirham minted in Naysabur in A. H. 268 (AD 881/882) discovered during excavations at Ryurikovo Gorodishche in 2011. This rare and beautifully designed coin owes its origin to tumultuous historical events which took place in Khurasan in the 870s-880s. It also demonstrates some specific features of circulation and use of Kufic coins in the Ilmen and Volkhov valley. So far it is the first and only find of this kind discovered in this region.
