Ideas of A. I. Herzen and natural realism

The article presents a brief review of research approaches to the analysis of the philosophical works of A.I. Herzen. The main ideas of the Russian thinker emphasized in his earlier works "Dilettantism in Science" and "Letters on the Study of Nature" have been considered. The development of these ideas in the theories of the Russian scientists of the second half of the 19 th century, who were the representatives of the natural scientific realism, have been shown.
