The results of the analysis of the frequency and usage of basic color terms in the selected idioms in Russian and English could be used in support for the theory introduced by B. Berlin and P. Key (1969) and further developed by P.Kay and C.K. McDaniel (1978). Although some idioms can be partially analyzed by methods of Generative Semantics, most of the idioms with basic color terms cannot.
