The author of this article considers the veneration of icons as an organic expression of Christian doctrine in agreement with Sacred Scripture and the Sacred Tradition of the Orthodox Church. He discusses the icon as a method of interpreting Sacred Scripture, tightly connected with doctrine and the life in Christ, which is testified by the tradition of expressing the experience of the Church in iconography and literature. According to the interpretation of many Church Fathers, the iconography of the Church is christocentric. Te author cites the works of St. Ignatius of Antioch, St. Irenaeus of Lyon, Blessed Augustine, St. John Chrysostom, St. John of Damascus, St. Teodore the Studite, St. Maximus the Confessor, St. Nicephorus of Constantinople, and others. He concludes that Orthodox biblical hermeneutics and Orthodox iconography are in completely unity with each other, since they reflect the same truth and mystery of the Incarnation
