Proper names as component of English phraseological units

The article is devoted to the problem of using proper names as constituent of phraseological units of the English language. Particular attention is paid to the etymology and semantics of phraseological units with the component "proper name", examples of the use of phraseological units in literary sources in different time periods are given. The study provides a classification of phraseological units in accordance with a key-parameter: biblical, literary, fictional, associated with the traditions of native English speakers, also displays etymological motivation with a proper name, which is lost in synchronous terms.
