The article analyzes the reasons of Ivan Kramskoy’ failure to write the second picture about Christ "Laughters"("Hail to the King of the Jews"). The artist's extensive epistolary material and historical evidence of the time are used. The article reviews the religious views of spiritual authorities (mainly foreign) of Russian intelligentsia of the 60-70 years of the XIX century, which significantly influenced the religious views of Kramskoy.
