The industrial digitalization task is really global today. It is set at the national level. Industry digitalization introduces significant structural and operational transformations, changes, expands the functionality of a modern engineer. It is proposes the look at engineering activities from the standpoint of industry and society digitalization concepts in this article. The article purpose is the understanding of the engineering activities development paradigm in the context of industry digitalization with globalization, assess the global and national trends impact in the field of digitalization on the engineering thinking of a technic specialist, and determine the digital competencies of a modern engineer. An overview of global and national strategies for industry and society digitalization, digitalization elements, and transformations is presented, that are also essential from the standpoint of the engineering and technical workers activities. An attempt is made to reveal the modernization initial grounds of the engineering education system, priority areas of this modernization and to show their inevitability in the Industry 5.0 concept context. The future engineers and technical workers advanced training value is noted in the field of digital competencies, a list of such competencies is determined, that are essential for employers. The core of digital engineering competencies is presented in a structured manner. The feasibility of the institute creating for the digital engineering competencies development is shown as a strategic basis for the national industry digitalization. It is possible to organize remote retraining effectively now, when previously localization was necessary for retraining and advanced training of engineering and technical workers. This opportunity is based not only on modern information and communication technologies, but also on digital platforms and in the organizational forms of digital educational clusters.
