This article provides a review of research on the hospitality industry. The criteria for classify-ing a particular area as an industry remain unclear. We assume that such criteria could be size, inter-relationships between activities, number of employees, contribution to national income, growth rate and management technologies. The hospitality industry stimulates the development of business management technologies, ensuring the efficient functioning of companies and increasing their competitiveness in the market. The article also argues that the concept of “hospitality” covers a broader and more general aspect than “tourism”. It includes all related sectors of the economy that are focused on serving people.
