Surgical manipulations on the prostate gland are one of the most frequently performedtypes of surgical treatment in urology. At the same time, the incidence of various infectious-inflammatory complications in patients who underwent such operations is high enough thatit requires studying the structure of these complications and developing rational algorithmsfor their prevention and treatment. The clinical study retrospectively included 57 patients who underwent transrectalmultifocal biopsy of the prostate and 52 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia whounderwent transurethral resection of the prostate. The average age of the patients was 56.2 years. The incidence of postoperative infections in the first group was 12.28%, in thesecond group - 25%. In the structure of postoperative infectious-inflammatory lesions ofboth groups, the infection of the prostate gland tissue prevailed. The vast majority of casesof postoperative infections developed in patients with a history of chronic prostatitis and ahistological type of chronic prostatitis of varying severity. The results obtained by us require further in-depth study of this subject. There isa need for the development of special algorithms for rational antibiotic prophylaxis andantibiotic therapy for postoperative infectious-inflammatory lesions.
