Information-analytical approach in the investigation of serial crimes: theoretical aspect

The article discusses the theoretical aspect of the application of the information-analytical approach in the investigation of serial crimes, with suspicion of seriality, attribution to the series. By serial crime, the author means a grave and especially serious sexual crime characterized by the same type, two or more committed crimes based on psychopathological manifestations, mental properties and reactions, emotional experiences associated with the manifestation of criminal aggression at different times by the same person. To develop and implement an information-analytical approach, it is proposed to systematize criminally significant information and compile a forensic profiling of a criminal in cases of serial crimes over many years, process the statistical information obtained using modern information technologies and artificial intelligence, which will open up new opportunities for analyzing complex information on a criminal case, shorten the period for investigating serial crimes. The information-analytical approach may give a chance to identify some psychological, psychopathological, physiological, social patterns in the personality of a serial criminal, will allow improving the general algorithm for compiling forensic profiling, to disclose crimes by analogy.
