Inclusive design (review of foreign concepts)

The article analyzes the original texts of foreign sources on the concept and methodology of universal, social and inclusive design. The concept of inclusive design has been developed by foreign authors, but it remains a new and developing area of scientific and practical work. The article presents the characteristics of universal design principles and analyzes the indicators of social design in comparison to the logic of inclusive design. Inclusive design focuses on creating an urban environment that addresses discrimination, stigma, exclusion, trauma, social disconnection and hostility. It seeks to achieve both social justice and a high quality of life for all city dwellers, rather than for a specific group. The myths associated with the creation of an inclusive environment are critically considered. The accumulation and content analysis of foreign approaches to the issues of social and universal design made it possible to develop the authors’ definition of inclusive design.
