В статье отражена роль манифестного и асимптомного каротидного атеросклероза в развитии ишемического инсульта. Представлены данные о нарушении липидного обмена, как ведущего фактора риска в развитии атеросклероза с поражением сонных артерий. Важную роль в профилактике инсульта играет ранняя диагностика каротидного атеросклероза и лечение с применением агрессивной липидкоррегирующей фармакотерапии и реконструктивных хирургических методов реваскуляризации.
