Dynamics of milk production in Russia and in the world

This article analyzes the dynamics of milk production in the world, including in the Russian Federation. Milk production of all types in the world increased by 2.1 times from 1990 to 2024. In Russia, milk production during the same period decreased from 55.7 million tons in 1990 to 34.1 million tons in 2024. In the Russian market, the bulk of milk production is still accounted for by agricultural organizations. In 2024, they milked 20.7 million tons of milk (plus 15.6% compared to the 2020 level). The Republic of Tatarstan, according to the results of 2024, with 2.28 million tons of milk, became the dairy region of Russia. The Republic of Tatarstan accounts for 6.7% of the total milk production in the country. According to preliminary data, in 2024, milk and dairy product consumption in the Russian Federation amounted to 250 kg per person per year (77% of the Ministry of Health's standard). This was the maximum over the past 28 years and is almost the same as in 1995 (254 kg per capita).
