The article deals with the impact of social networks on the transformation of forms of demonstrative status consumption. The “idle class” in the modern world is changing under the influence of new means of communication, acquiring more and more mass features and creating frames of reference consumption for different groups adopting these habits and able to mimic under the elite. Hypervisualized social media content, in particular Instagram, is becoming a modern accessible means of expression for millions of users making the most visible idle lifestyle, thereby generating new imagery in the process of articulation and representation of one's own “I” through various strategies of presentation of an idle lifestyle and status consumption, creating a fashion for idleness and obsessive demonstrativeness.
