The institute of municipal elections in modern Russia: problems and development prospects

The article is devoted to the study of problems and prospects for the development of the institution of municipal elections in Russia. The authors give an analysis of the content of the scientific discourse on the procedures for electing heads of municipalities and the electoral mechanisms for the formation of representative bodies of local self-government. Particular attention is paid to the study of the factors of viability of the models for the formation of municipal structures based on the direct election procedure. The paper is based on the data of empirical studies conducted in the Tver Region in 2012-2018.
