The formation and development of the institution of the oath in Russia of the 17th century is associated with attempts (successful and unsuccessful) to establish a new dynasty after the Rurikovich and the absolutization of the Russian monarchy from the second half of the 17th century. There are common concepts in the oaths of allegiance to the monarch upon accession to citizenship and the oaths of service to the state and to their department. The author shows the reflection of the norms of state law new to Russia at that time in the oaths. It proves the mandatory nature of the oath for both the Orthodox population and representatives of other faiths without changing their religion.
Oath of allegiance to sovereign, oath of service people, Russia in turmoil, Russia of the first romanovs, situation for orthodox and non-orthodox population
