Territorial autonomy institution in the context of centripetal trends in political system: theoretical issues

The study focuses on centripetal trends in state development as a territorial and political system concerned with the territorial autonomy institution. At this point, we can better understand the role of the institution of autonomy in state territorial integration. The study examines the opportunities to preserve state sovereignty on the territories under autonomization. At the same time, autonomization is regarded as a process of managed (controlled) decentralization. The research analyzes controlled decentralization strategies related to the protection of state sovereignty. The following strategies are highlighted: fragmentation, dispersion of sovereignty; imitation of sovereignty; diversification of sovereignty. From a comparative historical perspective, international autonomization practices prove that the institution of autonomy serves as a compromise mechanism for enforcing the right of peoples to self-determination.
