This paper explores the problem of workplace injuries and the role of union health and safety commissioners in addressing it. The importance of achieving zero workplace injuries for companies and society as a whole is highlighted. The paper looks at the causes of workplace injuries and the ways and measures that a health and safety commissioner should take to ensure that workplaces are safe. The problems faced by the Ombudsman for Occupational Safety and Health and the ways in which they can be addressed are discussed.
