The paper discusses the heuristic possibilities of an integrative approach as a specific sociological paradigm in the study of self-preservation behavior. The research reveals the prerequisites for an integrative approach developed in the late 20th century as a result of a paradigmatic shift in sociology. It presents the fundamentals of the figurative theory by N. Elias which plays an important role in the contemporary sociological discourse and is based on the integrative principles of the individual and society, act and structure. The research shows that the concept of habitus is of particular relevance in relation to the study of self-preservation behavior. It is concluded that consideration of the phenomenon of self-preservation behavior by means of an integrative approach will allow us to represent the phenomenon as a result of the inextricable link between the individual factors determining the appropriate behavior strategies and social structures that affect this process.
