This question has always aroused great interest. In recent years, it has become the subject of many newspaper and magazine publications. In most of them, the intelligentsia is seen as a phenomenon not only spiritual and cultural, but also political life of society. This is not a new issue in our history. This is not the first time that it has been raised, and it is due to the emergence of the usual social situation for us, when some part of the population is not politically developed and passive. In these circumstances, a certain layer of society (in Russia they were called intellectuals) assumes the role of opposition to the government, while considering himself the spokesman of the interests of the masses. In a democratic society, the intellectual's attitude to power is the same as that of most people participating in elections. The attitude towards intellectuals on the part of different social groups is dual, contradictory: some consider them as the leading representatives of Russia, others as the destroyers of the historical identity of the country. The article attempts to consider the long process of relationship between the intelligentsia and the authorities in Russia.
