Internet source as source of evidence

The domestic legislator established and fixed in part 2 of Article 72 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation an exhaustive list of sources of evidence, which included: testimony of a witness, victim, suspect, accused, expert, specialist, material evidence, protocols of investigative and judicial actions, other documents. However, in the context of information globalization with the development of new information and communication technologies, a significant part of the information of evidentiary value for the investigation of a criminal case, identification of the criminal, and other circumstances subject to proof, began to accumulate in various Internet sites. In this connection, the author of this article finds it relevant to study the issue of considering Internet resources as an independent source of evidence.
